New Delhi: The condition of civic infrastructure in Rohini's Sectors 20-25 came under discussion at a meeting of the Sector 20-25 Federation on Sunday, with residents raising concerns over water supply, sewerage, roads, sanitation and the coordination of services among different departments.
The general body meeting was held at Central Park, Pocket-10, Sector 22, and was attended by representatives of various resident welfare associations and residents from Sectors 20, 21, 22, 23, 24 and 25. Women and young residents also participated.
Residents particularly flagged the condition of Sectors 20 and 22, citing damaged roads, waterlogging and inadequate sanitation. They also pointed to the administrative difficulty of dealing with civic complaints when different aspects of public infrastructure fall under separate departments.
The meeting also discussed what participants described as inadequate response to complaints by officials and elected representatives. Federation representatives, however, said the organisation's increased engagement had resulted in greater awareness of local issues among government departments.
A key issue was the government's ₹214.12-crore development package for unauthorised colonies in Kirari, Bawana, Mundka, Narela and Nangloi Jat. While welcoming the development works, the Federation questioned the exclusion of authorised colonies in Rohini Sectors 20-25.
Federation president Pawan Chaurasia and general secretary Naveen Aggarwal said more than 100 RWAs were part of the Federation. They said residents had reported contaminated water and uncertainty over the timing of water supply, besides problems involving low pressure, blocked sewers and overflow.
The Federation decided to collate complaints and submit them to the relevant departments, with the aim of securing time-bound action.
The members also acknowledged the cooperation of Delhi Jal Board officials in responding to complaints. The meeting called for greater participation of women and youth in the Federation's functioning.
The Federation said its approach would be to work with government agencies and departments to improve civic infrastructure rather than adopt an adversarial position.
